Patient hand hygiene is an often-overlooked aspect of infection prevention. Hand hygiene studies to prevent C. difficile infection (CDI) have focused on healthcare worker hand hygiene and not patient hand hygiene (PHH). This study assessed PHH, sought to increase opportunities for PHH through staff education and patient assistance, and assessed whether improving PHH opportunities could affect the occurrence of CDI in a large healthcare facility.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has launched an ambitious global initiative, the Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Challenge, to combat the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. The AMR challenge is a yearlong effort to accelerate the fight against AMR and is a way for governments, private industries, and non-governmental organizations worldwide to make formal commitments that further the progress.
