SHEA/IDSA/APIC Practice Recommendation: Strategies to prevent healthcare-associated infections through hand hygiene: 2022 Update


The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) just published an update to the 2014 Strategies to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections Through Hand Hygiene. The update for 2023 is a collaborative effort by SHEA, The Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA), the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC), the American Hospital Association and The Joint Commission. The document addresses how facilities can train healthcare workers in proper hand hygiene technique, monitor compliance, engage them in the selection of products to promote skin health, and properly use gloves. It also discusses optimal alcohol-based hand rub placement.
